Fixing Flat Feet Week 4

I missed posting an update last week but I have continued doing the exercises daily. I may only post bi-weekly updates from now on.

Measurements (plantar arch index)

As you can see from the footprint photo above, there can be inaccuracies with measuring. Sometimes the arch area does not have a clearly defined outline so I pick an average line of best fit.

It occurred to me that I can probaby take more accurate footprints using carbon paper. I may try it out for the next set of measurements.

Left foot

Set Midpoint (cm) Heel tangency (cm) Plantar arch index
1 3.75 5.2 0.72
2 3.8 5.1 0.75
3 3.9 5.1 0.76
Avg 3.82 5.13 0.74

Right foot

Set Midpoint (cm) Heel tangency (cm) Plantar arch index
1 3.6 5.1 0.71
2 3.8 4.9 0.78
3 3.95 4.8 0.82
Avg 3.78 4.93 0.77

Note: for the average PAI calculation, I take the average of the three PAI values not the PAI of the average midpoint and average heel tangency. In other words,

  PAIavg = (PAI1 + PAI2 + PAI3) รท 3

These results are discouraging though. It looks like I'm getting more flat footed! Or maybe I just allowed my feet to relax and overpronate more this time. I will continue measuring over the coming months with the feet being in a completely relaxed position.
